Visiting ARKIR: Mary K. Austin from San Francisco Center for the Book.

Með ánægjulegri störfum okkar ARKANNA er að hitta, tengjast og vinna með erlendum bókalistamönnum. Stundum fáum við í heimsókn listafólk sem vill kynna sér verk okkar og um leið kynna list sína eða listastarfsemi. Í apríl fengum við tvær slíkar skemmtilegar heimsóknir frá Bandaríkjunum.

Mary K. Austin átti fund með ÖRKUM 14. apríl, en hún hefur víðtæka reynslu og þekkingu á bók- og prentverki. Þar má nefna að árið 1996 stofnaði hún ásamt Kathleen Burch Miðstöð bókverka í San Francisco, San Francisco Center for the Book, SFCB. Mary er formaður stjórnar SFCB og lifir og hrærist í heimi bókanna.

Visiting ARKIR: Gwen Mann from Boston.

Bókverkakonan Gwen Mann heimsótti okkur 26. apríl, en hún býr og starfar í Boston. Gwen hafði frá mörgu að segja og hún rakti m.a. sögu sína til Los Angeles í Kaliforníu, hvar hún hlaut listrænt uppeldi hjá Coritu Kent, sem hafði mikil áhrif á nemendur sína og samtímafólk með tjáningarríkri prentlist og grafík.

Now and then we in ARKIR get visitors from abroad, who like to get to know the group, as well as introducing their own works and art activities. Last month we were so lucky to have two such great guests from the US. 

Book art expert and collector Mary K. Austin met with ARKIR on April 14th. She, along with Kathleen Burch, co-founded the San Francisco Center for the Book SFCB in 1996. The Center teaches letterpress printing, book binding, and other arts of the books. Mary is also the board president of SFCB.

Boston based artist Gwen Mann visited us on April 26th. Her artistic roots are also grounded in California, where she first learned to know printmaker and artist Corita Kent, who had great influence on her students, artists and designers with her gifted graphic art. We really enjoyed Gwen’s stories and the books she brought along.
