Á bókverkamessu í Bandaríkjunum | Next stop California: CODEX VII

🇮🇸 Undanfarnar vikur hafa ARKIR undirbúið þátttöku á CODEX bókverkasýningunni í Kaliforníu, sem fer fram dagana 3.-6. febrúar 2019, eins og áður hefur komið fram. Átta meðlimir ARKA halda til San Fransisco nú í byrjun febrúar. CODEX sýningin er haldin annað hvert ár, nú í sjöunda sinn og er ein virtasta og fjölsóttasta bókakaupstefna sinnar tegundar í heiminum. ARKIR munu sýna bókverk á sameiginlegum vettvangi norrænna bókverkalistamanna undir merkjum CODEX NORDICA. Kastljósum verður einnig beint að norrænum bókverkum á málþingi CODEX kaupstefnunnar. Eitt af verkefnunum er Bibliotek Nordica, – safn bókverka valdra listamanna, en verkin eru öll unnin sérstaklega af tilefninu. Fyrir verkefninu CODEX NORDICA fer norrænn hópur sem starfað hefur að ýmsum sýningum undir heitinu CODEX POLARIS.


🇬🇧 Past weeks ARKIR have been preparing participation in the seventh CODEX book fair in California, from Feb 3.-6, 2019. Eight members of ARKIR will travel to San Francisco and exhibit books by ARKIR. The group will be a part of the art project CODEX NORDICA that represents book artists from the Nordic countries: Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Sweden. Nordic book arts will also be in focus at the book fair’s symposium.  ARKIR are looking forward to visit and participate in “one of the top three book fairs in the world.”* The project CODEX NORDICA is organized by book artists of the artist’s network CODEX POLARIS. CODEX NORDICA at CODEX 2019 BOOK FAIR and SYMPOSIUM SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, USA, 3rd to 6th February 2019

Over 120 artists from the Nordic countries represented at CODEX 2019 For the CODEX 2019 event Codex Polaris has been invited to curate a Nordic focus featuring artists’ books from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. CODEX, a four-day art book fair held every two years in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, is one of the world’s largest book fairs for ‘handmade book as a work of art’. Over 200 stands show works from more than 20 countries and attracts over 5,000 visitors, including collectors from world-leading art institutions and libraries.

CODEX NORDICA will be showing work on five stands, in collaboration with partners from each of the countries: Pist Protta (DK), Tatjana Bergelt (FI), ARKIR Book Arts Group (IS), Codex Polaris (NO) and Lina Nordenström / Carina Fihn (SE). In addition, BIBLIOTEK NORDICA, a collaborative project organised by Codex Polaris will be launched at CODEX 2019 in its own stand. This is a library of ‘hot of the press’ books, by 82 Nordic artists. Three speakers will be taking at the Symposium and 25 of the participating artists will be attending Codex 2019.

An exhibition of POSTED/UNPOSTED ++, another collaborative project will open at the San Francisco Center for the Book as part of the Codex Nordica program on 2nd February and Codex Polaris will be talking at the Book Club of California on 4th February.

CODEX POLARIS is an art collective based in Bergen, Norway. Over the last five years, the group has organised a series of artists’ book events, exhibitions and participated in book fairs at home and abroad. The initiative focuses on the book as an art object, the book as a sculpture or installation and the handmade multiple.

If you are planning on visiting CODEX 2019 don’t miss this opportunity to meet the Nordic artists at the fair and see a large collection Nordic artists’ books, many that will be on show in the USA for the first time. Codex 2019 is a dangerous place for book lovers, there are also another 214 stands!
